This video was produced in the United States to announce the collaboration of MAC Cosmetics and Hello Kitty. The inspiration feels decidedly more Gwen Stefani’s “Harajuku girls” than Hello Kitty as a children’s franchise. The overtly sexual and BDSM flavor of the video push a more adult Kitty experience.
I included this on the gender blog because it pushes the American fetisized version of a otherwise (mostly) innocent Japanese franchise.
